They\u2019re all staples of an American Thanksgiving. But they\u2019re also perfect ingredients for home-made doggy treats.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sighthoundunderground.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/cookies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-681\" alt=\"cookies\" src=\"https:\/\/sighthoundunderground.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/cookies-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>So, tomorrow, plunk the guests in front of the football game and take a few minutes to turn the ingredients you\u2019ve already got in the kitchen into special morsels for \u2013 let\u2019s be honest \u2013 the real critters for which you\u2019re thankful!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yummy Turkey and Carrot \"Cookies\"<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2 lbs. of leftover turkey ground or chopped very fine (no skin, no bones)<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>2 cups cooked rice<\/p>\n<p>8 oz. peas<\/p>\n<p>3 carrots shredded<\/p>\n<p>1 apple, diced<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix well. On a baking sheet, drop the batter into small round biscuits or form larger squares you can cut up later. You could get fancy and use a cookie cutter with a bone shape, too. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Let cool before serving.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yummy Turkey and Cheese Treats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2 cups chopped cooked turkey (no skin, no bones)<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons grated cheese<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons of peas (optional)<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>2 cups wheat flour<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons brewer's yeast (optional)<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons vegetable oil<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Combine turkey, cheese and peas and mix well. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and then pour them over turkey mixture. Add the flour, yeast and oil. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Drop as small lumps onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Cook in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes, until brown and firm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PBP (Peanut Butter and Pumpkin) Treats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1 15-ounce can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling!)<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup oats<\/p>\n<p>3 cups flour<\/p>\n<p>3 tablespoon of peanut butter<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stir together the flour and oats. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, pumpkin and peanut butter. Stir wet ingredients into dry. Pour onto a floured surface and roll dough out to \u00bd\u201d thick. Cut out using cookie cutter. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350 until golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sweet Potato Dog Goodies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1 cup of canned sweet potato or leftover sweet potato removed from the skin and mashed<\/p>\n<p>1 3\/4 cups flour<\/p>\n<p>1 egg (beaten)<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons peas (optional)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stir ingredients together in a large bowl until dough forms. Roll dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet. Press dough down slightly so the biscuits are about 1\/4 inch thick. Bake at 350 until golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A is for Apple Dog Treats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2 1\/2 cups flour<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup cornmeal<\/p>\n<p>1 finely chopped or grated apple<\/p>\n<p>1 beaten egg<\/p>\n<p>1\/3 cup vegetable oil<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup cold water<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Blend flour and cornmeal in large mixing bowl, add apple, egg, oil, brown sugar and water until well blended. Roll the mixture out on a floured surface until it\u2019s about an inch thick. Cut into shapes and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
