Many Sighthound owners have well documented collar obsessions.<\/p>\n

If your Greyhound has never worn the same collar to a Meet & Greet twice, then yes . . . we may be talking about you. If your dog has more martingales than you have shoes, then yes . . . we may be talking about you. If there is a room in your house your close friends call \"the collar room,\" then yes . . . we are definitely talking about YOU!<\/p>\n

Tag collars can match martingales for the sharply dressed Sighthound.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

But as serious (and budget-threatening) as martingale-itis can be, it doesn\u2019t always extend to tag collars. So let us take a moment to extoll the virtues of the tag collar--because we consider your dog NAKED without one!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A tag collar is a fitted collar that exists for the sole purpose of identifying your dog. It is NOT a martingale and should NOT have a \"D\" ring or any other obvious place to attach a leash. A tag collar can have a metal buckle, plastic clip, or may be adjustable so that it slips over the head and is then tightened. Unlike many martingales, a tag collar is usually 1\" wide or less.<\/p>\n

We use dangle-less tags because we want our foster parents and adopters to leave these tag collars on 24\/7 without getting annoyed by a jingling tag at night (and possibly tempted to take them off.) Our tags are made by Boomerang<\/a>, and we recommend them. They are fairly expensive, but come in a variety of sizes to fit any size or type of collar. You can also use traditional hang tags, riveted tags, and even collars with your contact information embroidered directly onto them. Whatever identification you use, the important thing is that someone could reach you if your dog was lost.<\/p>\n

What information goes on your tag? There might only be room for one phone number. If your dog is lost you aren't going to be home--you'll be out looking for them--so your cellphone number is your best bet. You should also include your address and your email address if there\u2019s room. Make it as easy as possible for the person looking at the tag to return your dog<\/p>\n

to you. Some of us are so paranoid, we put tags on both the tag collar and the martingale or halter our dogs wear when out. A tag keeper makes it easy to move tags when you change your dog\u2019s collar wardrobe.<\/p>\n

Remember, tag collars stay on all the time, even when you're in the house, although you can still admire the lovely curve of your Sighthound's neck during a bath -- with the door closed and risk of flight minimal. Just make sure to put the tag collar back on before you open the door.<\/p>\n
