Yes, we are crazy.

Have you ever driven 12 hours for a dog? Have you ever flown across country and then driven 16 hours for a dog? If the answer is yes, you may be a SHUG person.

Yes, we are crazy. We are delusional, we are paranoid, and we are completely okay with that.

This week SHUG dogs are moving Spain to California and Chicago and Wyoming and from Chicago to Texas to Hawaii. Yes, Hawaii.

There are crazy SHUG volunteers who have already started their journeys and who won't be home until next week. Because dogs. We take off of work, drive through the day and night, and just generally do crazy things on a semi-regular basis.

Thank you, David. Thank you, John and Alisha. Thank you, Valerie. Thank you, Cindy and Beverley. Thank you George, Joann, and Lynda. Thank you, Jana and Emily and Venita. You guys all rock. You're absolutely crazy, but you totally rock!

  1. I saw your spot on home and family and had to check out your websites. Yes I have driven 12 hours from Brooklyn to Pittsburgh to adopt my afghan Zeus round trip one day! I myself thought I was crazy but so worth it, I’ve had 7 Afghans all rescues and they are the best. I do have 5 dogs and 5 cats 2 Afghans 2 chihuahuas and a beagle, rescue is a labor of love I have done it all my life keep up the good work. God bless all of you

  2. I am so in awe of the amazing work all of you volunteers do! You are all ANGELS for these precious little souls. I do so wish I had known of your rescue group when I was younger, and would have been able to rescue one of these precious pups, but as of now…it would not be advantageous/fair to this type of babe for me to have one (I am 74 yrs old & not in greatest of health). Therefore, I can only continue to donate to this cause, and hope it helps. I also just continue to support my local rescue shelter, and hopefully can volunteer there once I am fully recovered from my fall/injury. May you be blessed for all you do for the helpless babes!
Love and best wishes to all~Renee

  3. I love the article: “This is not your dog.” Why people complain about such a wonderful group putting hours, sacrifice and effort for a cause? I believe potential adopters are colleagues and supporters in the fight against animal cruelty. Any little help one can provide potentially supports one or several sighthounds in need of help. I believe people shopping for pets should contact a responsible breeder not a group like this.
